The Association of Business Psychologists annual conference is the key annual event for business psychologists and I was delighted to have been asked to present. I joined other speakers from NHS, HMRC, Capita, TMP Worldwide and other leading organisations. The conference had more than 30 expert sessions from a range of leading organisations speaking on ‘delivering more with less’.

I presented a paper titled, It’s All About You. Most independent consultants and small businesses just don’t have the budgets to commit to advertising or serious marketing and it’s increasingly hard to justify the spend. I argued that my audience was in a prime position to use their ‘self’ to communicate their services, their unique proposition and to engage with potential clients in innovative ways. After all, who better than a psychologist to understand new communication channels and to communicate with authenticity? Who better than they to understand the requirements and nuances of interaction? The challenge, for all of us, is less in using the tools, than it is in believing that you truly have something to say, that you can be yourself. New opportunities when we put our self out there. So, it’s all about you now. Are you prepared to give it a try? #itsallaboutyounow
